Moving slowly, living fully.

CURATORIAL STATEMENT:

Moving Slowly, Living Fully

Moving Slowly, Living Fully continues to explore a central question: how can we keep moving forward without allowing the pursuit of progress to consume the life we are trying to build?

The exhibition begins with questions that have no immediate answers. How do we preserve a relationship in memory? How do we face ageing, loneliness, and loss? While pursuing a dream, how do we know whether we are still moving toward something meaningful, or whether it is time to pause and choose another direction?

Here, balance is an ongoing practice of adjustment rather than a perfect or permanent state. We continually search for our own position between effort and rest, ambition and contentment, self-protection and openness. Breathing becomes both a physical action and a metaphor, allowing us to create some distance and recognise more clearly what we are carrying.

Through colour, light, sound, and quiet landscapes, the exhibition invites visitors to slow down, pause, and take a deep breath. The works reflect how certain views and environments can briefly alter our inner rhythm, allowing the body to relax and the mind to feel less crowded.

Influenced by Stoic philosophy, the exhibition also considers what we can control and what we must learn to accept. We cannot completely control loss, change, ageing, or the choices of others. We can still decide where to place our time, attention, and care; when to establish boundaries; when to allow ourselves to rest; and at what pace we wish to continue.

Through acrylic painting, stone clay sculpture, sound, spatial installations, and symbolic figures, Moving Slowly, Living Fully draws on images, objects, and lived experience to explore how we relate to ourselves and the world around us. The exhibition does not offer a single answer or promise that art can directly heal anyone. Instead, it seeks to create a room that breathes, allowing visitors to recognise their own emotions, reconsider the speed and weight of their lives, and understand that moving slowly does not mean standing still. It can also be a way of living with greater attention, balance, and intention.

In the middle of Pièce, an installation created in collaboration with Sleepy Tofu brings mattresses, a membrane that moves gently with the air, and projected ripples of light into the space. Visitors are invited to sit or lie down, feel their bodies supported, and settle into the rhythm of rest and breathing.

CREATOR PROFILE

MVM(Michael Vincent Manalo/

MVM(Michael Vincent Manalo/劉邁克)was born in Quezon City, Philippines, in 1986 and is currently based in Taipei. Since 2011, he has lived and worked across different cities and countries. This nomadic experience has made identity, memory, loneliness, the search for home, and the relationship between people and their environments central to his practice.

Working across acrylic painting, digital imagery, sound, augmented reality, stone-clay sculpture, and installation, MVM creates surreal and dreamlike scenes that often place figures in moments of vulnerability, isolation, or uncertainty. Recurring images of a boy, turtle, clouds, houses, and cats form a visual language that explores the inner child, companionship, balance, dreams, and belonging.

His work has been exhibited in Australia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Italy, the United Kingdom, Georgia, Germany, Japan, Poland, Serbia, Spain, South Korea, the United States, and other countries. His recognitions include First Prize in Digital Art from the Art Museum of Chianciano Terme, the Best Photographic Illustration Award at the Redmond Digital Arts Festival, Second Place in the Secret Art Prize, and a nomination for the APBF Signature Art Prize by the Singapore Art Museum.

In recent years, he has collaborated with GIANT to transform cycling experiences and personal stories into art bicycles. He has also created an environmental sound installation at Xiangshan Wetlands and a light-art installation for the Kaohsiung Lantern Festival. In 2026, he presented Gentle Collapse at POMA Project, created a public artwork for the Central Taiwan Lantern Festival, and presented Moving Slowly, Living Fully at Maison ACME Yuanshan Villa.

Beginning with personal experiences, MVM transforms images, objects, sound, and space into environments where visitors can pause, recognise their own emotions, and reconsider how they move through life.
